SEO for dummies
SEO is like a big treasure hunt on the internet. When you type something into a search engine like Google, SEO helps decide which websites show up first. The websites that have good SEO follow special clues to make sure they are easy to find. These clues include using the right words, having helpful information, and being popular with other people on the internet. Just like finding hidden treasures, good SEO helps websites be the winners of the search engine treasure hunt!
How do you get better SEO?
It’s simple, all you have to do is give Google what it wants so Google can give its customers what they want. If someone wants a bathroom renovation, and that’s what you want more of, then you make a few blog posts, use some images with some behind the scenes text, and flick a wand while saying
“Alakazam alakazoo, there’s more SEO for you!”
Or the better way is to get someone that knows SEO like you know pipe work and let them do it for you, because chances are, they’re good at what they do.
Do I need SEO?
No, only businesses that want more clients need SEO. We only recommend SEO to those that want more jobs. In saying that, SEO isn’t a guarantee for more jobs, it’s a means for a businesses website to gain more traction in the field of lead generation. If you are getting enough leads to make you happy with the work load it comes with, then there is no point in doing any extra “marketing” since you’re already at capacity. However keep in mind, the more a person sees your logo/website/name, the more they feel comfort in you since you’ve been living in their minds rent free. Not everything you invest in will show results immediately, some things might pay you back over a year from the time you did the action.
I’ve done SEO before and it didn’t help.
This would depend on what is meant by “help”. If the aim for SEO was to get more income, then it could help, but then you’d have to consider did a lead go onto the website and then get turned off because the website was hard to use? Did the website look too generic? Were the photos on the website clearly not the business they expected to deal with? There are many variables that could be the cause of a lead not even reaching out.
You even run the chance of not even getting SEO done by someone that said they were going to do it for you. Liars exist, unfortunately… Another thing to consider is when did you do your last SEO update? Yes, SEO needs to be updated. Think about it, you and every other trade in your field all want first page, best results, no.1 ranking, etc. There can only be one, so the competition lives. You’re only world champion kick boxer/maui Thai fighter until the next guy comes to take the belt away from you.
How often should I update my SEO?
SEO should be updated when you find a need to dominate a field on your profession. For example, in the plumbing field there are jobs like leaking taps, bathroom reno's , gas fit outs, stinky pipe syndrome (sewage). Each of these services has its pros and cons to the business owner. Based on your preference on job, you update your SEO upon what you want to be found for. You might hate doing sewage and love reno’s, in that case update your website towards the bathroom renovations and have less people ask you to swim in black gold.
